🇲🇹 Malta has been ruled by Phoenicians, Carthage, the Romans, the Vandals, the Arabs, various European dynasties and the British. But the most notable were the Knights Hospitaller, who were gifted the islands in the 16th century. Under the Knights of Malta (as they became known) they repulsed the Ottomans at the Siege of Malta under their Grand Master Jean Parisot de Valette, who the capital Valletta was later named after. After the Napoleonic Wars Britain gained control of Malta and held it for the allies despite six years of bombing by the surrounding Axis powers in World War II (WW2). After thousands of years of foreign domination, the Maltese people finally became self-governing when Malta became Independent in 1964.

🇲🇹 The geography of Malta consists of three main islands - Malta, Gozo and Comini. Sitting within the Mediterranean climate of hot, dry summers and mild wet winters, and with 3000+ hours of sunshine per year, Malta's economy is boosted by millions of tourists, here to visit the unique historical sites and architecture, as well as many fine beaches and cliff-dominated coastal views.

🇲🇹 Maltese culture is influenced mostly by European dominance in history, although the Semitic Maltese language is a Middle Eastern hangover from the time it was occupied by the Arabs. The Maltese Cross, though not native to Malta, bears its name through its long association of the Knights of Malta, who would wear the Maltese Cross into battle.

Where are the worst places to live in Derbyshire? The county of Derbyshire is lovely and lovable. That is why many people love the county with its wonderful countryside. Not only that, it also has a lot of ancient landmarks and picturesque towns. The country in the middle of England has regions that boast great connections to the largest cities in the United Kingdom whilst many of its residents delight in its rural lifestyle, particularly in and around the county’s illustrious Peak District National Park. However, many people living in some of the region's towns have called out Derbyshire, claiming that those towns are the worst places to live. In this video, we look at those 8 towns considered the place to live in Derbyshire. Please enjoy the video.
8. New Mills
This New Mills, which is a town in the Borough of High Peak in the county is the best place to start from. The town 13 kilometres southeast of Stockport and 21 kilometres from Manchester, located at the confluence of rivers Goyt and Sett, is close to the border with Cheshire and the Torrs.
Now, let’s take a trip to New Mills. Such a trip may also be described as a trip through New Mills. The town isn’t really too good. Some have actually described it as a dump. It used to be so bad that the Council had to divide New Mills into two sub-regions, East and West. You need to know something about this: New Mills is a northern town. And don’t forget also that the name suggests, the town was a cotton-spinning town with remarkable links to Manchester on its two railway lines.
Well, the town has a bus station and a bus roundabout with some random worn-out benches thrown around. It also has a staggering 13 public houses which is rather grossly insufficient for its population of 12,000. They also have two supermarkets for supposedly poor people.
7. Pinxton
This is a village nestled on the border, western boundary of between Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. Pinxton is also a civil parish in Derbyshire just south of the Pinxton Interchange located at Junction 28 of the M1 motorway. That’s where the A38 road meets the M1. This town is also part of the Bolsover District with a population of 5,652, according to the 2021 Census. The town derives some euphoria from its Pinxton Football Club based at The Welfare Ground. It also has four secondary schools.
But then, the village is one of the worst places to live in Derbyshire because it has become the centre of a mystery that has remained unresolved for decades. This is what has thrust it into the national spotlight. Not long ago, Nottinghamshire Police reported that human remains were found in Coxmoor Road, Sutton in Ashfield. It’s not an isolated case, however. We can’t forget in haste the remains of Pinxton miner Alfred Swinscoe who disappeared 56 years ago.
6. Bakewell
The next town is Bakewell, the market town and civil parish regarded by its critics as “The traffic Tokyo of England.” Bakewell is known for its Bakewell pudding. The town lying on the River Wye is 21 kilometres south-west of Sheffield. In 2019, the estimated population of Bakewell was 3,695. Is it fair to describe the town as the “traffic Tokyo of England”?
Well, as you are driving into the town, perhaps on a public holiday or weekend, and crossing the beautiful Victorian bridge and entering the town centre, you may be losing daylight and may have to turn around, hence going back through the traffic in Tokyo of England. Kids are taught from childhood to ignore motorists. Such kids are accustomed to barging into any sweet shop or confectionary counter to indulge themselves without any recourse to safety on the road. Even 5-year-olds nicking some freshener or confectionary counter are carefree.
However, we find something so good about this town. It’s home to the world-famous Bakewell Tart. Its Peak District serves up an array of delicious food and drinks courtesy of its many outstanding eateries.
5. Shirebrook
The next one of the 10 worst places to live in Derbyshire is Shirebrook, a town in the Bolsover district in Derbyshire.

We’ve got a 1600hp Nissan GT-R going head-to-head with a 1200hp Audi R8 & a 1,100hp McLaren 720S… And trust us, it’s absolutely EPIC!

So let’s run through the stats. First up we’ve got Mat in the GT-R, which would normally have a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6… But it’s had a full engine rebuild and it’s now packing a 4.1-litre twin-turbo V6 which delivers a humungous 1,600hp & 1,500Nm!! It also rolls up with AWD and weighs in at 1,750kg.

Next up we have Auto Torque’s Audi R8. Yianni’s in it, and he’s looking forward to feeling its 5.2-litre NA V10 in action once again! And it’s no surprise, given it delivers 1200hp & 930Nm of torque! It’s also slightly lighter than the GT-R, at 1,650kg.

Then finally we have the 720S. Of course, it’s been tuned, so its 4-litre twin-turbo V8 now delivers 1,100hp and 950Nm. It’s easily the lightest car here, at 1,400kg, but it’s got one big disadvantage - it’s only RWD!

Trust us, this one is NOT to be missed!

6 Irish wolfhound
Irish wolfhounds are considered the tallest dogs in the world, were initially bred to pull men off horses and chariots in battle. Today, this breed is a popular family companion with owners taking advantage of the breed's intelligence for use in hunting and obedience competitions.
Irish wolfhounds do well with children and are friendly with other animals. Their friendly behavior makes them poor guard dogs, but their size generally intimidates potential intruders before they realize the dog only wants to play. This breed usually is around 85 cm in height and 55 kg in weight.
5 Turkish Kangal
The Kangal dog takes is perfectly trainable, devoted to protecting its owners and their property. She gets along well with other pets, loves children, and sometimes even can act as a babysitter. Kangals are one of the strongest dogs in the world, and in some countries, they are still used to protect cattle from wolves and cheetahs. The cons of this breed are that they require a great deal of exercise, and the immense size makes apartment living virtually impossible. Kangal’s average height is 71 to 81 cm while it weighs 43 to 65 kg.
4 Great Dane
Another one of the biggest dog breeds in the world is the one that is commonly called the "Gentle Giant," the Great Dane. This dog was initially bred to hunt wild boar. While the breed's giant size is often intimidating, the Great Dane is actually very well mannered, sweet, affectionate, and gentle with children.
Great Danes size can make it difficult for them to be ideal house dogs, so training is necessary. Great Danes are frequently considered the tallest dogs in the world which is not surprising since they can be 110 cm in height and weight 75kg.
3 Saint Bernard.
Saint Bernard is widely known as one of the biggest dogs in the world with a tender heart. Originally bred to rescue travelers and guard travel lodges in the Swiss Alps, Saint Bernard is a gentle, intelligent, muscular dog.
Despite the breed's giant size, they prefer being indoors with their family. This can be a love-hate relationship as Saint Bernards are very friendly, easygoing, and generally happy to lie down and sleep while their family does their thing. These massive dogs have the average height of 65 to 85 cm and can weigh 110 kg.
2 Spanish Mastiff
The Spanish Mastiff is one of the heaviest dogs in the world, and they have been around for a couple thousand years or more. They are easily distinguished by their size and the two massive hairy folds of skin that hang off their neck. While they are not fully recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC), they have been assigned the Working Dog group in the AKC's Foundation Stock Service since 2008. Spanish Mastiffs usually reach around 87 cm in height and 115 kg in weight.
