Financial markets have soared after US President Donald Trump announced a 90-day "pause" on the tariffs against countries who have not retaliated against the US.

The pause means a "universal 10%" tariff will be in place for all countries, other than China, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed.

The White House also said it was introducing a 125% tariff on China "effective immediately”.

The NASDAQ index went up 9% and the S&P 500 index rose 8% following the news.

China has raised tariffs on US goods to 125% as the trade war with the US over Donald Trump's global tariffs escalates.

Beijing faces a 145% levy on some of its goods imported to the US.

President Xi Jinping called on the EU to join Beijing in opposing "bullying" from the US, and said "there are no winners in a tariff war".

Despite this, Donald Trump said he is still hoping to secure a deal with Beijing, adding they would "end up working something out that's very good for both countries".

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The YMCA is in the Nonprofit Spotlight for its Head Start Program. FOX4's Kathy Quinn visited one of five YMCA locations where they have the program. Their locations are spread out through Jackson, Clay and Platte County and they serve kids from six weeks to age five for low-income families.

"Our goal is to create a school family so that they have a connection here with each of their teachers and everyone here." said Genevieve Muncy of the Head Start program. "That promotes social and emotional learning skills so that they feel safe, they feel connected, and they're ready to learn."
