This week, we’re taking a ride in a beautifully restored 1957 Volkswagen Beetle — and it’s not just any Bug. It’s got a 90 horsepower engine, 4-wheel disc brakes, and enough nostalgic charm to stop a Cadillac in its tracks (well… almost).

This Beetle spent its life with one loving couple, who used it through college, marriage, and everything in between — until Colorado rust nearly claimed it. Then I got a letter: “Jay, will you save our Beetle?” Next thing you know, the whole crew at the garage is elbows deep in a total rebuild.

You know, in 1907, if you wanted to prove your car was tough, you didn’t take it to the Nürburgring — you drove it 36,000 miles through Siberia with nothing but some tools, spare tires, and an unreasonable amount of confidence.
Meet the 1907 Thomas Flyer — the actual car that won the legendary 1908 New York to Paris Race, and yes, it still runs like a champ. Jay gets behind the wheel to take this 570-cubic-inch torque monster out for a spin.
